What is a virus?
A computer virus is a program that attaches itself to another program on your computer. When the infected program is used, the virus is able to then run and do its best to spread to other programs on your computer. Computer viruses range in severity from simply displaying messages, all the way through to completely destroying files on your computer, which could leave your computer unable to work.
The best protection from computer viruses is to install a trustworthy antivirus program such as ESET NOD32, and a trustworthy firewall program. Further to this, there are some basic security steps to follow:
- Do not download unfamiliar email attachments
- Do not click on unknown links, or sites offering free access
- Increase your Internet security settings
- If that email offer seems too good to be true - it probably is!
